Verónica Vazquez

Veronica Vazquez (Uruguay, 1970) studied drawing, painting, sculpture, print-making, ceramics, tapestry and art history. Veronica’s materials of choice for large format works include metal plates and iron. In 2014, the Piero Atchugarry Gallery began to represent her work, followed by two solo exhibitions in 2014 and 2015. Later, the gallery edited a monographic catalog about her work and took her to some of the most important international art fairs in Brazil, New York, Turkey, Italy and Singapore. Working with these materials is working with our own limitations – working with the structure of the image, forgetting the story, the narration, to only see straight lines, curves, spots, dots, and shapes. To think about the idea of unity with the same shapes or proximities or using lines or grids or leaning one on another or putting them in the same direction or by color or by intervening a structure, then: think, try, sew, tie, join, weld, fold, cut, enjoy.

Trabajar con estos materiales es trabajar con nuestras propias limitaciones –trabajar con la estructura de la imagen, olvidando la historia, la narración, para ver sólo líneas rectas, curvas, manchas, puntos, y formas. Pensar en la idea de unidad con las mismas formas o proximidades, o usando líneas o rejillas o apoyándose unas en otras o poniéndolas en la misma dirección o por el color o interviniendo una estructura, entonces: pensar, probar, coser, atar, unir, soldar, doblar, cortar, disfrutar.
